History

Since this car probably started out as a regular road car, I'm not sure what to tell about it's history. Therefor this review lacks the history part, but hopefully the review itself will compensate for this.

Construction

The 944 Turbo is a kit is quite a few years old. Recently Revell took the street varient into reproduction. This kit however is the racing variant. It includes not only a hightly detailed 944 including it's engine, but is also comes with a piece of PE, rubber hoses and a vinyl sheet for the seat belts.

Interior
I had to modify the interior at some points, because it had to look like a stripped 944 coupe. I sanded away the bolts and wires, added a regular passenger seat and aluminum floor mats. A few details were changes on the dashboard. I changed the steering wheel and added a small pannel at the bottom. The console in the middle, where the shifter is placed, was "cleaned" as to look like it was stripped of it's carpeting. When the interior was finished a roll cage was fitted. I used tape to simulate the soft protection strips which were placed on some parts of the tubing. For the seat belts I used real cloth seat belt and not the vinyl sheet. This look much better this way. Attaching the PE parts to the roll cage was quite a pain, but eventually I got it right.

Engine
As with my 968 Hasagawa kit, this kit included a detailed engine. The chrome paint was removed from the engine (and also the rims) and resprayed using Alclad Aluminum. I kept the basic part of the engine in tact, but I removed the turbo unit and exhaust. I had to create a new free flow exhaust using a plastic pipe.
I then further detailed the engine with wiring, the rubber hoses and an altered airbox.

Exterior
Not many changes had to be made to the exterior of this car. I only had to add racing mesh in the front bumper and remove the fog lights. The entire body was then painted in the Gulf Colors.

Paint and Decals

The inside of the car was painted black. After that, the car was sprayed in Gulf Blue from Zero Paints.

This was the first time I used Zero Paints and I must say, it sprays very good. I used the Gulf orange to spray paint a trim over the body and I also used it on the rollcage. When the orange paint was dry, I masked off the body and spayed the black line between the orange and blue.

The decals were quite some work, but after a few evenings working in Photoshop, I got had my new decal sheet.

Conclusion

Although I created a complete different car using this Turbo kit, the kit is excellent. Not a single fault is to be found in this kit. It has very good detail, quite a few parts but it still is a kit which can be build bij beginners and experts.
